Montgomery Conservation Commission seeks professional help after volunteer workday reveals overgrowth on Town Land

Members reported that a volunteer workday on Aug. 2 to locate and clear around fruit and nut trees on Town Land exposed extensive overgrowth. The minutes state that "the amount of growth of goldenrod and other plants was incredible, and it was very difficult to see many trees despite there being stakes which had been installed in the spring to mark the trees." Volunteers brush-hogged and cleared identified trees, but several marked trees appear to be dead.
Given the condition, the commission agreed a long-term management plan is essential. Members decided to use a Vermont Land Trust template as a starting point and asked Joan Hildreth to contact Dorothy Kinney-Landis and Lauren Weston from FCNRCD to seek assistance or referrals; the commission hopes to have someone attend the September meeting to facilitate planning.
