Board hears report on baseball field drainage, plumbing fixes and OSHA readiness

Superintendent Jim Helmen told the board the Vernonia High School baseball field is not draining properly after heavy rains and that an auger attempt to add deep drain holes showed the repair will require substantial work. The district has met with athletic directors and maintenance personnel about the issue.
Helmen also reported the district purchased a heavy snake to address clogging toilets in-house. He said the fire marshal conducted an inspection at the district’s request as a precondition to an OSHA visit and noted that while the fire marshal will not levy fines, OSHA could. No cost estimates or timelines for the baseball-field repair were provided in the minutes.
