Kevin Brickey, Director of Management and Budget for Hillsborough County, convened the Committee to Assist the County Budget Director in Preparing Charter Required Financial Impact Statements and read the proposed financial impact statement for a renewal of the 0.5% community investment sales surtax.
"A renewed 0.5% sales surtax will continue as part of the current 7.5% sales surtax and is just estimated to raise $201,500,000 and $213,800,000 the 1st 2 calendar years," Brickey said as he presented the revenue estimates. He said the county charter requires a financial impact statement for this type of referendum and that this committee was formed to assist the county budget director in preparing it.
After discussion, Kim Beyer, assistant county administrator of Public Works Administration, moved to approve the financial impact statement; Melinda Ginzarli, acting county internal auditor, seconded the motion. The three committee members—Melinda Ginzarli, Kim Beyer and Michael Potts—voted in favor with no opposition. Brickey declared the statement adopted.
The adoption is a procedural step under the county charter to document expected revenues and distribution assumptions that will be part of referendum materials. The committee adjourned after the vote.
