The Nye County Water District approved up to $3,000 on Aug. 12 to purchase two desktop computers for a public learning center in the district’s new office. The equipment is intended to give the public access to approved websites and datasets related to water resources during set hours.
The manager said the devices would be locked down by IT to restrict browsing to selected sites and that the district’s budget could absorb the expense. "This would give an opportunity for the public to come in and interface with the manager and allows extra resources," the manager said. After a motion and second the board approved the purchase unanimously (6–0). The manager said if there is slack in the $3,000 he may include video‑conference hardware; otherwise he will return for additional authorization.
