Board directs staff to prepare public report on proposed glove factory amid chemical‑use concerns

The board directed staff on Aug. 12 to prepare a brief, public status report on progress by the Nye County Planning Department regarding a proposed medical glove manufacturing facility in Pahrump. Vice Chair Helene Williams brought the item forward, saying residents are concerned about the chemicals the facility might use and the lack of public detail.
"There's been such a concern in the community about the amount and types of chemicals that's going to be utilized by this factory," Williams said during the presentation, and she asked the board to require either an applicant appearance or a staff report before the Planning Department’s September deadline. The manager said that, while staff will not likely be able to return before October, the board would receive a status report at the October meeting and that many regulatory hurdles remain (including Great Basin Water Company requirements and state environmental approvals).
Public commenters urged transparency and pressed for applicant appearances. The board voted to direct staff to prepare a report and to bring a public update in October. Staff said the report would be posted publicly and that conditional approvals by planning would include conditions the district could monitor.
