Commissioners approved a minor modification (PRS 24‑0635) to allow additional flexibility of recreational uses at an existing activity center in south Brandon, including a proposed 3,000‑square‑foot wave/surf pool.
Applicant representative Chris Veil described the proposed surf pool location within the multi‑use recreation area and said the facility offers family‑oriented activities including rock climbing, laser tag and an expanded water amenity. "The highlighted box there, that is on the plan... is the main condition change, which includes this to be a 3,000 square foot, wave slash surf pool," Veil said. Staff noted the modification does not increase overall entitlements and recommended approval.
The commission approved the amendment 7–0. The applicant and county engineer addressed an administrative variance request for a substandard road, which staff deemed approved. The applicant said the surf pool would be sited within the existing development envelope and that the project focuses on serving service members and their families while open to others.
