Commission unanimously backs West Main Street map change to protect pocket park

The planning commission unanimously recommended TACPA 24-10 consistent with the City of Tampa comprehensive plan to change a small parcel at West Main Street and North Albany Avenue from Community Commercial 35 to Recreational Open Space.
Planning staff said the site had been used as a park even while privately owned and that the West Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency acquired the property in 2021; the amendment would align the future-land-use designation with the community's long-standing park use.
Bryce Faringer, Tampa CRA staff, said the change "seeks to ensure that park use on the site is protected for the long term" and noted the CRA and West Tampa advisory committee support the amendment. Commissioners had no further questions and voted unanimously to find the amendment consistent.
The recommendation will be forwarded to the City Council for final action.
