US Forest Service ranger reports prescribed burns and new mountain-bike trail plans in region

Martina Barnes, Manchester District Ranger for the U.S. Forest Service, told the Select Board about two recent prescribed burns at Tarbellville and Beaver Meadow Road aimed at reducing fine fuels and supporting wildlife habitat. Barnes advised residents to exercise caution because drought conditions increase fire risk.
Barnes also said the Forest Service is beginning work on a statewide mountain-bike trail that will pass through the region and could traverse Mount Tabor; she noted conversations about access from Mount Holly but said no decisions have been made. Jessie Prucnal added that a five-year timber sale in Mount Holly is intended to support wildlife habitat, with timber as a byproduct.
