The Mount Holly Select Board voted May 12 to remove six hazardous trees at Star Lake Recreation Area after reviewing three contractor quotes. Clinton Woolley reported the bids as McCullough Brothers $19,350, Willow Tree Service $8,000 (no debris pickup) and DB Tree Works $4,000 (including cleanup). Jeff Chase moved to approve the removal, Mark Turco seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Woolley also told the board that the State of Vermont inspected the Transfer Station and found breaches tied to resident misuse, particularly of the burn pile. In response, Jeff Chase moved to “close the burn pile immediately,” a motion seconded by Mark Turco and approved unanimously; the board also agreed to close the open-top containers for construction debris and metal at the end of the fiscal year. The Select Board directed Woolley to brief attendants on monitoring options, explore a one-way entrance for better oversight and to notify the State once the town receives the inspection report. The board intends to fund the tree removals from the summer road outside services budget line.
