Westfir faces deferred wastewater maintenance and recent E. coli permit violation; plan funded by DEQ SRF underway

Budget staff reported the city received a $100,000 forgivable Clean Water State Revolving Fund award from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality to develop a wastewater facilities plan; the project is currently about 53% complete. "In June 2024, the city received a forgivable loan of $100,000 from DEQ's Clean Water State Revolving Fund to develop a wastewater facilities plan," the budget officer said.
Members discussed deferred maintenance needs at the wastewater plant, including solids buildup and cleaning, and staff said they may need to present a remediation plan to DEQ by May to address a previously recorded E. coli permit exceedance. The committee budgeted some remaining costs in the Sewer and ARPA funds and noted about $17,000 is not covered by the grant and will need to be funded locally.
