Newbury Energy Committee issues MERP RFP; site visits set for Jan. 21 and 28

The Newbury Energy Committee met Jan. 13 and confirmed that the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the MERP Project at the Newbury Town Office has been distributed and will be advertised in the JO for two rounds and in the Valley News for one round. Committee members recorded that site visits are planned for Jan. 21 and Jan. 28, 2026, and that two contractors have already scheduled visits for Jan. 21.
Committee members said site visits will last about 1.5 hours and will offer opportunities for energy committee members, selectboard members, and two participants identified as Chuck and Mary to join. Once visits are scheduled, committee members will select which session to attend to evaluate bidders in person. The RFP document, as recorded in the minutes, requires that contracted work be completed by Oct. 31, 2026, a deadline the committee will consider in evaluating proposals.
The meeting noted a third contractor previously expressed interest but had not yet scheduled a visit. The committee emphasized scheduling and full participation in the site visits as key steps ahead of the Feb. 11 proposal receipt deadline and the Feb. 17 recommendation to the selectboard.
