Council delays decision on Concerts in the Park RTMP request until organizer can attend

Councilors reviewed Concerts in the Park’s 2024 event report and staff noted it drew mainly local attendees with no overnight stays, a factor in RTMP scoring. Nicole (city staff) told the council, “We paid $2,500 last year, but… they didn't have any overnight stays,” and recommended the organizer appear to explain outreach plans for attracting out-of-area visitors.
With the organizer (Kevin Goldman) absent, the council agreed to table the request to the next meeting so the organizer can present attendance data and how the event meets RTMP criteria for drawing nonlocal visitors. A councilor suggested asking the organizer to submit additional documentation that would demonstrate scoring on the RTMP questionnaire.
What happens next: staff will invite the organizer to a future meeting and share the Oak Ridge application so councilors can compare scoring between events before making an award.
