The Tamworth Conservation Commission voted Jan. 12 to prepare a warrant article to fund maintenance work on the Great Hill Fire Tower, with funding to cover repairs to the wooden cab and painting of metal and wood. Commissioners agreed the article will state the purpose as "needed maintenance on the Tower," and the dollar amount can be amended at Town Meeting if grant funding is found.
Ned Beecher said a contractor has approached him and he will follow up to get a rough cost estimate; if the estimate is available before the Jan. 16 warrant deadline he will include it in the article. Dylan Alden moved to create the warrant article and Teresa Fournier seconded; the motion carried. The commission noted the warrant language can be adjusted at Town Meeting if the final cost or grant opportunities change.
