Appointments, personnel changes and county hires dominate meeting calendars

Throughout 2015 the Nemaha County Board of Commissioners processed numerous personnel actions affecting county operations. Early in the year the board accepted the County Assessor Jana Smith’s resignation and appointed Deputy Mallory Lempka as interim then later approved the hiring process and CAMA contract recommended by Lempka.
The board also appointed Don Wamsley as District 1 foreman (effective June 22), approved job classification and transfer requests for road employees, and addressed veterans services staffing: after a public selection process it appointed William (Bill) Hessler as Veterans Service Officer late in the year. The board approved short-term employment and transition assistance where recorded, and authorized recruitment postings when positions were vacant.
“Personnel continuity and qualified hires keep county services running,” Commissioner Bob Hutton said during a discussion of foremen and road staffing. The board consistently acted by roll-call vote to accept resignations, appoint interim staff and authorize advertisement for vacancies.
