Nemaha County Board reorganizes for 2014, names Hutton chairman and Bohling vice chair

County Clerk Joyce Oakley called the first regular meeting of 2014 to order on Jan. 8, led the Pledge of Allegiance and opened nominations for board leadership. After nominations, the board elected Commissioner Bob Hutton as chairman for 2014 by unanimous roll‑call vote. Commissioner Marvin Bohling nominated Hutton and the motion that nominations cease and elect Hutton carried with all members voting aye.
The board also selected Bohling as vice chairman following a motion by Dennis Wittmann and a second from Hutton. The board conducted routine organizational business, approved the agenda and accounts payable, and reappointed several county officers including Loras Baumhover as Veterans Service Officer and Renee Crister as Emergency Management Director. Motions on these items passed on unanimous roll‑call votes.
The reorganization was procedural and front‑loaded the meeting’s agenda so staff could complete appointments and set the board’s annual meeting schedule. The county clerk’s minutes state the board led by example on open‑meeting compliance: meeting notices and the Open Meeting poster were on file and available to the public.
