Davis County certifies June 23 primary; 827 ballots rejected and turnout 41.24%

County Clerk Brian McKenzie presented the canvass for the June 23, 2026 primary during the Board of Canvass on July 7 and asked the Commission to approve the certification.
McKenzie reported that 111,056 voters were eligible and turnout was 41.24%. He said 827 ballots were rejected—816 mail-in ballots and 11 provisional ballots—with lateness (arriving after the 8:00 p.m. deadline) and signature mismatches the primary reasons. McKenzie explained the office contacted voters with curable issues and gave them nearly two weeks to resolve problems.
The clerk's reconciliation reported a 100% balance between ballots received and accounted for after correcting minor discrepancies found during hand counts. McKenzie also described a post-election audit completed July 1 that included machine firmware verification, a hand-count sample of up to 1% or 1,000 ballots, and a double-check of 1% of ballot envelope signatures. Commissioners approved the canvass item unanimously.
