Engineer: New Haven River channel has shifted about 40 feet at Nash Bridge; town advised to seek state permission to remove sediment

Robert Clark of Otter Creek Engineering told the Selectboard that a recent survey of the New Haven River at Nash Bridge shows substantial sediment buildup on the north side of the channel and that "the river has moved approximately 40 feet to the south side." The accumulation has created a large beach that can alter flow and increase flood risk.
Clark recommended the town apply to the state for permission to remove sediment both at the bridge and farther upstream where deposits have developed. Selectboard members discussed the logistics and permitting steps that would be required before any removal work could begin.
