Selectboard hears need for a larger fire-station parcel; town will ask VELCO about boundary adjustment

Steve Dupoise updated the Town of New Haven Selectboard on May 5 that the engineering firm working on the new fire station has advised the department will likely need a larger parcel than currently planned. The Selectboard noted the New Haven Development Review Board granted a waiver allowing construction on the present parcel despite the lots being subdivided for residential rather than commercial use.
Dupoise said he will approach VELCO to ask whether the utility would consider a boundary-line adjustment that would give the town about two additional acres at no cost; if VELCO declines, he said the department will proceed with the parcel as currently configured and report the result back to the board. Vice Chair Marie Jewett and other members thanked Dupoise for the update and noted the board will track next steps with the town attorney and the fire department.
