Nemaha County Board re-elects leadership, approves January business

At its Jan. 12 meeting the Nemaha County Board of Commissioners elected Monty Lovelace chairman and Bob Hutton vice chairman, approved minutes and claims, and moved into routine business including appointments and public requests about road maintenance and use of county meeting space.
County Clerk Joyce Oakley called the January 12, 2011, meeting of the Nemaha County Board of Commissioners to order. Commissioners Monty Lovelace, Bob Hutton and Marvin Bohling approved the agenda, elected Lovelace chairman and Hutton vice chairman, and approved minutes and county claims presented by the clerk.
The board addressed early appointments and public requests. Stephanie Hackett of the Auburn Post Office asked the board about providing magnets to road maintainers so graders can pick up steel and nails from county roads; the board took the request under consideration. Erin Moon of the Nemaha County Wellness Center and Laura Osborne of Nemaha Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse (NADAA) discussed the Wellness Center’s need for access to the NADAA room in the Multi‑Plex building; the board said it would consider alternate multi‑purpose space. Road employee Walt Boring advised the board he had a pending doctor’s appointment and would provide documentation of work limitations before returning to work.
"The agenda was held open until one business day prior to the meeting for appearance before the board," County Clerk Joyce Oakley read as part of the opening process. The board recessed briefly to meet as the Board of Equalization and then reconvened to continue agenda business, including committee reappointments and several land subdivision and veterans board reappointments later in the meeting.
Next steps: the board scheduled follow‑up on public facility use and on the road‑maintenance magnets request and left routine items such as reappointments and resolutions on the consent track for subsequent votes.
