The Westfir City Council on Monday adopted its FY2025–26 budget in a recorded vote, approving a total adopted budget of $1,475,180 and passing the accompanying resolutions needed to levy taxes and accept state revenue sharing.
A council member read the resolution aloud before the vote: "Be it further resolved that the Westford City Council hereby adopts a budget approved by the budget committee and reviewed and modified by the city council for fiscal year 2025–26 in a total sum of $1,475,180," the reader stated. The council then took a roll‑call vote; Mayor Watson and the councilors present voted aye and the motion carried.
City Recorder Dorita explained a minor change that had been made after the budget hearing: "So the change is 4,471, so under the $5,000," she said, noting that because the adjustment is below the $5,000 threshold the council could incorporate it without republishing the budget summary. The change increased ARPA appropriations for wastewater work and adjusted totals shown in the resolution.
The resolution also includes appropriations across funds (general fund, water, sewer, highway, RTMP, ARPA and reserve funds) as read into the record. Councilors said they would track end‑of‑year expenditures and, if necessary, hold a special meeting to approve late fiscal‑year items.
The council’s action authorizes staff to file the forms required to receive state revenue sharing and moves the adopted budget into effect on 07/01/2025.
