Utah State University Extension presents rural online initiative, offers grant and training support

Trenton Wilson, a program specialist with the Rural Online Initiative at Utah State University Extension, briefed the Daggett County Commission on services available to residents and local businesses, including a remote-work certification course, leadership training, and an e-commerce accelerator that can assist small and agricultural businesses free of charge in some cases.
Wilson described two grant programs that county governments and towns can use: the rural county grant (about $200,000) and the Rural Communities Opportunity Grant (formerly the Rural County Opportunity Grant) which can provide up to $600,000 for economic development projects. He offered county staff help with grant review and letters of support, saying the Extension can also run workshops locally and help apply RCOG funds to workforce-related training. "If you want help or ideation on any of that, we are happy to help provide that," Wilson said. The commissioners invited the Extension to attend an August 10 CEOAB meeting virtually to discuss opportunities.
