Superintendent updates board on assessment trends, safety tabletop and greenhouse project

Superintendent (speaker 6) told the board updated assessment reports show progress in many categories compared with ESD peers but flagged science as a relative weakness tied to staffing turnover; he said the district now has more mid-year data (iReady, DIBELS) and will use these measures to track trends. "If you look at where we have the beginning of year and the middle of year data, that shows us the trend," the superintendent said.
He also outlined safety work: the district will hold a multi-agency tabletop exercise later in April with county/state police, fire, medical and school staff to walk through scenarios (for example, a major earthquake) and rehearse reunification and evacuation. "This is a crisis exercise that's taking place on campus," he said, noting the event will be announced so the public is not alarmed by the presence of emergency vehicles.
Facilities updates included a near-complete greenhouse built with community partners and district support, and ongoing projects such as dust collection in the CTE building. The superintendent said early-learning literacy grant dollars are being considered to bolster summer reading interventions and that bias-incident training with the ESD (WESD) is scheduled.
