The Montrose City Council authorized the purchase of a new commercial-grade mower at the June 10 meeting and heard maintenance concerns about sewer infrastructure that could require contractor involvement.
Maintenance Hanisch reported the existing commercial mower (a Grasshopper) has electrical deck problems and would need costly repairs; the council approved a motion (Action 25-086) to purchase a new commercial-grade mower not to exceed $26,500 using 2024 insurance funds and campground account money. The motion carried with no opposition.
Hanisch also reported multiple manhole breakdowns and said new chimney liners are coming apart and moving through sewer lines, which could damage pumps in the lift station and cause backups. Hanisch recommended contacting DGR Engineering and Halme Contracting to develop mitigation plans. The council discussed chip-seal pricing, with Hanisch noting chip-seal costs of $36.28 per block and prioritizing FEMA-funded street repairs first.
The council approved the mower purchase and tasked staff to begin procurement under the stated spending limit; the sewer infrastructure issue will proceed to engineering assessment.
