The committee noted that the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) provided feedback about exam timing, but the response lacked clarity on whether applicants can be approved to test while still completing supervised experience. Jennifer Lang explained that some state boards allow approval up to six months before completing supervised experience but that this Board does not currently approve applicants mid‑supervision; ASWB can verify eligibility for a fee charged to applicants.
Members discussed whether to allow LMSWs to take either the LMSW or LCSW exam based on practice path, and debated alternatives to a single high-stakes exam such as modular testing or allowing additional supervised hours under experienced supervisors. Sherwood Randolph moved to continue the exam-alternatives discussion at the next meeting; Teresa Reynolds seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Ms. Lang asked staff to review Boost! program data on supervision and exam pass rates to inform the next discussion.
