At the June 10 Montrose City Council meeting, Citizen Jandl proposed forming a volunteer committee to help reduce vegetation and rodent nuisances across the city.
Mayor Susan Painter noted the city has limits when issues occur on private property, and Finance Officer Nicole Siemonsma said formal code-enforcement actions must follow ordinance procedures and be properly documented in city records. Councilor Vogel said that if the volunteer committee works directly with receptive property owners, the city need not intervene; if city action is required, a formal complaint must be filed with the finance officer.
Council did not record a formal motion on the proposal; the discussion concluded with guidance about when citizen action is acceptable versus when city enforcement steps are required.
