Magna council approves multiple planning commission appointments and forms safety committee

The Magna City Council approved a slate of planning commission appointments and moved to constitute a new safety committee during the meeting. The council read and passed Resolution R2026-17 appointing Ted Shaw as a regular planning commission member (vote included an abstention recorded on the public record), then approved R2026-15 (Jeff White) and R2026-16 (Jeff Larson) as regular members, and R2026-18 appointing Doyle Jenkins and Ronnie Thompson as alternates.
Council then discussed a safety committee created by ordinance of the council (not state law). The mayor announced three proposed resident appointees — Jen DeHaan, Kristen Smith and Melinda Burrell — and council members moved to prepare a resolution to formalize the committee so names will appear in the minutes. Council directed staff to coordinate with Chief Craig on additional membership and to identify a council member and planning commission representative to serve as part of the committee composition.
