UPD reports February call volume, recommends two Traffic & Safety Committee nominees

Lieutenant Chris Benedick of the Unified Police Department gave the council a monthly operations update and recommended two community members for the Magna Traffic and Safety Committee.
“Calls for the month of February, 1,357 calls for service…459 long form calls…and that averaged up to 62 calls per officer during that month,” Benedick reported. He added that 187 criminal citations were issued during the month. Benedick said UPD extended offers for committee seats to Michael Romero and David Alexander and welcomed council input.
Council members asked follow‑up questions about district heat maps and how call concentrations would influence deployment; Benedick said the MSD district heat maps in the council packet show where heavy call volumes are concentrated and that UPD will trend calls by council district to focus resources.
