Five new officers sworn in as city recognizes recent successful downtown response

Kannapolis held a ceremonial swearing‑in for newly hired police officers and used the meeting to publicly recognize the department’s recent operational response downtown.
Deputy Chief introduced the new officers—Officer Elijah Andrus, Officer Kevin Alas (absent), Officer Timothy Bell, Officer Orlando Edwards and Officer Chance Morris—and noted they had “just completed over 900 hours of basic law enforcement training” and are now in a 21‑week field training program. The recruits were administered the oath by staff and recited the pledge to “support and maintain the constitution and laws of the United States and the constitution and laws of North Carolina.”
Separately, public commenters and council members praised the department’s planning and visible presence during a July 24–25 downtown threat, crediting officers and specific leaders for keeping downtown safe and allowing businesses to operate without disruption.
