Atkins thanked volunteers, fire departments and local businesses for support and said the event included a tug-of-war between area fire departments and drone coverage for the city website.
Mayor Matthew McCoy read a formal proclamation recognizing Atkins “for outstanding service to the city of Seaford” and the council joined the applause. Atkins said the event’s turnout and volunteer support made the celebration meaningful: “We just appreciate you guys for having faith in us for doing it,” she told the council. The mayor asked staff to document the proclamation for the record and invited the DSA to continue planning fall activities.
