Water department reports progress on Rochester Crossing, lead-service replacements and tower erection

At the July 10 meeting the water department provided multiple operational updates. Staff said as of yesterday the Rochester Crossing contractor reported all lines in and not leaking; crews had addressed a few penetrations and staff planned camera verification the same day, with stormwater installation to follow if verification confirms repairs.
Water staff also reported Rex Construction will return next week to finish five remaining lead-service replacements and install two meter horns. The department gave a progress update on a new water tower: steel is being welded on site, the top piece (described as larger than previous top pieces at about 60 feet) will be set in one lift, painting is scheduled to start Oct. 5 (weather permitting) and the project target for being put online is Dec. 17.
Staff also discussed restoration work for commercial tie-ins (Wendy’s, Starbucks, Burger King areas) and said the contractor had 38 nonworking weather days; staff noted any formal request for a 30-day extension must be submitted by the contractor and will be reviewed before being granted; an extension would cover only time, not price.
