ComEd and parent company Exelon announced a $10 million customer relief fund at an event hosted by Cornerstone Community Development Corporation in Ford Heights.
Gil Quinones, introduced at the event as ComEd’s CEO, said the fund is part of a larger corporate initiative and that recent market changes are increasing costs for customers. “The results of last year's PJM capacity auction are driving up cost even more with an average increase of about $10.60 per month for residential customers in ComEd territory,” Quinones said, adding that ComEd does not profit from that increase.
Quinones described the relief as part of a broader $50,000,000 initiative from Exelon intended to help customers manage higher bills. He said the company will continue to pursue energy-efficiency programs and other measures to reduce costs. The announcement was presented as a community partnership with local governments and nonprofit providers to reach eligible residents.
Organizers said the funds are intended to reduce or eliminate past-due balances and connect customers to longer-term assistance. The event concluded with officials and ComEd representatives available to answer enrollment questions and connect residents to local help.
