Maxine Halligan, a Magna resident, opened the public-comment period with three requests for the council: she wants the July 4 carnival with rides to return, asked who the contact would be to get the event organized, and asked for help opening alley easements that have been built across without permits. "My name is Maxine Halligan, and I have 3 things I want to address," she said, describing an instance where a family "took up 0.5 of the easement, and built buildings on it without building permit," and noting utility crews have been blocked from access.
Halligan also asked who to contact about disposition or reuse if the high school were sold, suggesting space for lower-income seniors. City staff directed her to code enforcement (engineer Chad Anderson and code enforcement will review encroachment complaints) and asked staff to follow up with the appropriate contacts. The council did not take formal action tonight on any of her requests; staff committed to investigate and report back.
