Makiki fire crew reports June incident mix; department emphasizes heat safety

A firefighter representing Engine 3 (Makiki, 3rd platoon) told the Makiki neighborhood board that June incident activity included two structure fires, one brush fire, three cooking fires, nine activated alarms, 156 medical calls and two hazardous materials incidents. The presenter said HFD will provide lithium‑ion battery safety guidance and will share tips from the department’s CRO section next month.
The department also highlighted heat‑safety practices for July: "When it's too humid, our bodies have a harder time cooling down, which can lead to heat related illnesses," the firefighter said, and pointed the public to resilientoahu.org and heat.gov for preparedness and alerts. Board members thanked the crew and asked HFD to return with lithium‑ion charging safety materials.
