MSD updates sidewalks, Main Street concerns and multi‑year road projects
Summary
MSD reported on multiple capital projects affecting Magna — sidewalk work on 8400/9100 West, right‑of‑way needs for 8000 West, coordination with West Valley on 7200 West, and a UDOT‑led frontage project — and agreed to a council workshop to walk Main Street and identify finish/quality issues.

MSD staff reviewed a slate of transportation and pedestrian projects that will affect Magna over the next several years, including sidewalk projects on 8400 and 9100 West, right‑of‑way acquisitions needed before advertising the 8000 West project, and two segments of 7200 West being coordinated with West Valley City. MSD said right‑of‑way work and design will likely mean construction for some projects will be years away; Chad (MSD project staff) estimated construction for a major realignment project would not begin before spring 2028.
Council members pressed MSD on workmanship on Main Street and bump‑out/curb work that remained incomplete after paving, saying the city expected projects to be finished curb‑to‑curb. MSD said it is withholding final payment until punch‑list items are fixed and proposed a site workshop so council and staff can walk the corridor and identify seam and cold‑joint concerns. "If the concern is the seam there, we can ... clearly seal the seam," MSD said, and council requested MSD return with options to address both structural and aesthetic issues.
