Fire Chief Marcus Haines asked council to approve purchase of Paratek Rescue Shores to support the Georgia Search and Rescue program; he said the $42,950 cost will be paid by the city up front and reimbursed in full by a GEMA Homeland Security grant. Chief Haines explained the equipment is used for trench rescue stabilization and replaces rescue shores acquired in 2008.
Chief Haines described the product and its application: "You drop those in the hole and that stabilizes... strong backs," and emphasized the five-year warranty and the unit's trench-rescue capability. Council moved, seconded and approved the purchase by a show of hands as presented.
