The Valdosta Mayor and Council approved purchase of 200 South Lee Street for $250,000 to support downtown redevelopment efforts and conveyed intent to transfer the property to the Central Valdosta Development Authority. Project manager Al Crace described the parcel as 0.44 acres with a commercial building of about 19,000 square feet built around 1985; staff proposed dismantling and relocating the site's steel structure for municipal use at the Myrtle Street service center.
Crace said the purchase is intended to complement other redevelopment projects in the South Patterson and Savannah Avenue areas and that SPLOST funds will be used to complete the transaction. Council moved, seconded and approved the purchase by show of hands; the agenda packet lists assessor valuation and additional property details.
