Downtown partnership outlines theater restoration and alley improvements

Rochester — City staff and the Rochester Downtown Partnership updated the council July 28 on downtown redevelopment steps, including an ongoing theater restoration project and a planned alley improvement north of the theater.
Julie Schamber, the city’s Main Street director, described the restoration effort and said demolition and site preparation for nearby buildings are expected to proceed within about 30 days. She said the city had been selected as one of 15 smaller projects qualified for a capacity-building program (from a competitive pool of applicants) and that alley work would begin as part of coordinated downtown improvements. "The parade has 88 entries as of today," she noted while reviewing festival and downtown activation plans.
Council voiced support for the work and asked staff to return with timelines and permits as demolition and grant details are finalized.
