Council approves $22,295 contract to fix sinkhole and replace pipe on Municipal Lot #1
Summary
Union City authorized Mansfield to replace approximately 10 feet of 24" clay tile, install a larger catch basin and reconnect pipes at Municipal Lot #1 to repair a sinkhole; two bids were received and the lower bid of $22,295 was approved unanimously.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported a sinkhole at Municipal Lot #1 that affected a 24‑inch clay tile storm line and recommended replacing the clay tile, reconnecting all pipes in the sinkhole to the 24" line, installing a larger catch basin and replacing about 10 feet of pipe. Engineer Tim Wells and consultant Bob Carpenter (Insight) supported lining pipes in sections or replacing the tile as appropriate.
The borough received two estimates: Mansfield at $22,295 and McLallen Construction at $23,450; both required the Borough to provide a truck for the work. On a motion by Councilor Steadman, seconded by Councilor Osborn, Council approved the Mansfield proposal, with the motion carried unanimously. The council directed staff to coordinate the schedule and provide the required truck for contractor use.
