The board recognized Holly Roman, a fourth-grade teacher in the Hardyston Township School District, for receiving the 2025 Anton Benko Award for excellence in elementary science teaching. The New Jersey Science Convention selected Roman for her work integrating STEM across grade-level activities and community partnerships.
The recognition includes a $2,000 award to support science instruction and an invitation for Roman to represent the district at the New Jersey Science Convention in October. The chair praised Roman's classroom approach and mentorship of colleagues. Roman told the board she has taught in the district for more than three decades and said she is honored to teach in Hardyston.
Trustees said Roman's selection—and the district's attention to STEM—are bright spots as the school year begins. The board invited the community to congratulate Roman and noted the award supports the district's goal of strengthening hands-on science instruction.
