Council approves multiple budgeted grants and contracts for infrastructure, recreation and resilience projects

At the meeting the City Council approved a slate of budgeted grants and contracts covering public-safety infrastructure, recreation improvements, and resilience planning.
The council authorized acceptance of a $262,500 grant from Rhode Island Emergency Management (FEMA SLG-SLCGP) for replacement core switching hardware and approved an award to Brewster Thornton Group Architects for the Newport Navy Hospital feasibility study. The council approved a not-to-exceed $390,408 contract to restore Rogers High School tennis courts, a $421,642.73 contract for a splash pad and shade structure at the John Chafee Recreation Area (ADA-accessible sidewalks and fencing included), and a playground replacement at Aquidneck Park.
The council also authorized acceptance of a $1,433,647 boating infrastructure grant (RIDEM Boating Infrastructure Grant Tier 2) to support the Anne Street Pier expansion project and approved a change order to amend a Raftelis contract for water and wastewater system rate study implementation services, increasing that contract by $585,168 to a new not-to-exceed total of $1,394,493. Administration said these awards are currently budgeted within the FY27 capital plan or grant allocations and will be processed through normal contract administration.
