Middletown Springs library seeks $10,000 to support programming during move to renovated building

Crystal Hyer, chair of the Middletown Springs library board, asked voters to approve Article 7: a $10,000 additional appropriation to support the library’s operating budget during the transition into a renovated building.
"That $10,000 really will help... to be able to do that," Hyer said, explaining the funds would pay for additional staff time to expand programming, support fundraising, and reduce the immediate tax impact of operating a larger facility. Hyer said construction work is nearing completion and the board anticipates moving in during the summer with a grand opening in the fall.
Hyer said much of the project has been supported through grants and an existing reserve that had been previously voted for library uses; she told the meeting that the library has used reserves and state grants (including an energy‑resiliency grant and a department of libraries construction grant) rather than new tax dollars for the bulk of the renovation so far. Questions from the floor focused on anticipated operating costs, staffing, and a plan for ongoing fundraising should the town not provide the full $10,000.
Voters will decide the appropriation via Australian ballot on March 3, 2026.
