Staff outlines coordinated rezoning push under Diamond Head 2040 plan

Derek, a planning official, briefed the commission on the next steps to implement the Diamond Head 2040 plan and the new Aloha Districts. He said the administration and property owners are discussing joint rezoning applications for parcels along the proposed new commercial corridor and that the applications could be ready for the commission's September meeting, subject to notice requirements.
"What we're looking at doing now is... we're going to the city... with some property owners we're going to be looking at jointly filing rezoning applications to encourage some of these properties along the new Commercial District Road... to encourage the type of development that the council envisioned in the Diamond Head 2040 plan," Derek said. He warned that the process will require substantial mailings to adjacent owners and that staff expects a significant amount of public feedback. Derek said the administration is coordinating the effort at the council's direction and expects to present several properties in September if applications and notice obligations can be met.
