Commission recommends fence setback variance for 5626 Ahule Place

The Diamondhead City Planning and Zoning Commission on July 28 recommended approval of a variance request from Fred and Sandra Walters to allow a fence within 10 feet of the property line adjoining the golf course at 5626 Ahule Place (case file 202600509). Staff presented photographs and property-line flags and confirmed required notices and on-site posting had been completed.
Beau, the planning staff member who led the packet review, told commissioners the proposed fence would be a four-foot black metal golf-course style (not chain-link) and that side-yard setbacks do not apply to the proposed location. "We posted on-site, and we also have the list of all adjacent properties as required that were mailed out a notice," Beau said when summarizing the notification steps. Applicant Fred Walters answered commissioners' questions about the ditch and tree maintenance near the rear property line.
Commissioner White moved to approve staff's recommendation and the commission approved the recommendation by voice vote. Chairman Brewer reminded the applicants that the commission is advisory and that the City Council will take final action at its next meeting. The commission recorded no written opposition in the packet and staff said there had been phone inquiries but no emails or letters in opposition.
