The board heard that the grant program can fund resurfacing and reconstruction of Class 2 roads and that maximum awards can be up to $200,000. The chair noted the April 15 deadline, saying, “April 15…for this, the paving grant and structures,” and members agreed it made sense to prepare an application now even if construction would occur the following year. Members asked highway staff to get an estimate of the length and treatment (grind and repave versus two-layer paving) from a contractor to include in the application.
Board members also flagged a deteriorating box culvert on a state-reviewed project that one participant said will need engineered design and could cost “in the hundreds of thousands” to repair. The board agreed to prioritize getting contractor input for the grant application and to convene a site visit and a short working session to define the exact section of Route 140 to include. The meeting recessed with a plan to reconvene Saturday at 11:30 a.m. to inspect Route 140 and finalize grant scope.
