Chamber reports local business updates; mayor proclaims Sept. 26 Colfax Arbor Day

Colfax Chamber President Gary Young updated the council on business reopenings and events, and Mayor Jim Retzer proclaimed Sept. 26 Colfax Arbor Day, noting Jennings Elementary second graders will plant trees at Schmuck Park.
At the start of the Sept. 15 meeting Chamber President Gary Young told the council that several local businesses and events are active: "Serfes is currently renovating after a flood, they hope to be open by December or January," he said, and he reported Terra Cotta has opened a new Colfax location and class sign-ups are available online. Young also noted the last Farmer's Market of the year is Thursday and reminded councilors of the Chamber luncheon on Oct. 7 that will feature the Port of Whitman presenting on reusing and revitalizing properties for economic development. Kim Nguyen requested a meeting with Mayor Retzer and Gary Young.
Later in the meeting Mayor Jim Retzer read an Arbor Day proclamation designating Sept. 26 as Colfax Arbor Day; he noted second graders from Jennings Elementary will plant trees at Schmuck Park at 10:30 a.m. The council did not take additional formal action on Chamber requests at the meeting.
