Council pauses Planning Commission work for Tree Ordinance drafting; accepts Tree City minutes

Councilor Barb Gregory reported that the Planning Commission meeting was canceled so staff could draft the next steps on a Tree Ordinance. Mayor Pam VanArsdale asked the commission to consider Jacksonville’s approach to tree-removal replacements given wildfire risks and said she will look forward to the commission’s recommendations.
The council accepted the Tree City Committee minutes for Feb. 12, 2026, by unanimous vote. The mayor clarified that she appoints people to the Tree City USA committee and staff will reach out to Ed Hudson to see if he wants to serve; the mayor will interview and appoint him if he chooses to participate.
