Stormwater board backs $180,800 drainage and paving project for new Street Department site, awards contracts

Public works staff (Tony Clark) presented a detailed scope for stormwater capture and paving at the town's new Street Department building, including a 460-foot ditch on the south side, multiple pipe sizes to route runoff to an existing culvert feeding Deer Creek Ditch, and sediment-collection structures.

"My recommendation is as following, H2O Plumbing for the piping and the ditch work in the amount of 75,000, American Paving is in for the paving at a $105,800," the public works staff said, laying out contractor bids and a total project cost of $180,800. Bids quoted during the report included LGS Plumbing $78,836 and H2O Plumbing $75,000 for piping; paving/site services bids included amounts up to $225,138, while the selected paving price was $105,800.

Board members asked whether the proposed pavement thickness and base would support heavy salt and service trucks; one member said, "The heavy loading is my concern," and staff replied they had driven 25–26 ton salt trucks across the existing base with no observed sinking and that the design allows change orders to add stone if needed. After discussion, a committee member moved to contract with H2O Plumbing for piping/ditch work ($75,000) and American Paving for paving ($105,800); the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Chair Michael Lambert confirmed the Stormwater Board's portion would be approximately $60,266.67.

The project will include piping tied into existing downspouts, an open grama structure with a 1-foot sump for sediment collection, and a 12-inch C900 DR18 run to the existing culvert; staff said they would arrange an engineer review if members wanted an additional inspection before final acceptance.
