Redevelopment Commission finds proposed TC Transport repair garage on Summer Street in compliance, with conditions

Representatives of TC Transport described plans to build a semi-truck repair garage and related storage and parking at 1325 Summer Street, an underdeveloped property in Gibson Yards. The applicant said the family has invested in site cleanup, removing more than 1,000 tons of trash and razing dilapidated buildings, and estimated the project could create 15–20 new jobs and represent about a $1,500,000 investment.
City planning staff recommended the commission determine the proposed light-industrial trucking facility is in compliance with the Hammond Central redevelopment area plan, subject to three conditions: final technical approval from departments, final signage-package approval and approval of any variances from the Board of Zoning Appeals. "Therefore, staff recommends that the redevelopment commission determine that the proposed light industrial trucking facility at 1325 Summer Street is in compliance ... subject to 1, final technical approval ... 2, receipt and final approval of the signage package, and 3, determination of and receiving approval of any potential variances from the BZA," staff told the commission. The commission accepted the staff report and voted to find the project in compliance.
