Board approves weekend closures on Sheffield and Homan for track work; truck detour planned

Engineering explained crews will replace the ground bridging between the track and the ground and that the city has conducted similar closures previously.
Engineering described the truck detour plan in detail: westbound trucks will be intercepted at Calumet and routed south to 165th, with a specific routing from Burnham to River Oaks Drive to 65th for eastbound truck detours. A board member raised concerns about existing backups near the state line and suggested the city notify motorists and coordinate with CSX about track conditions; engineering said it would reach out to CSX and coordinate security and signage. “So they’re replacing the, the ground bridal between the track and the ground,” engineering staff said when explaining the nature of the work.
