Board approves license agreement with Shirley Heinze Land Trust for Marquette Trail segment

The Board of Public Works and Safety recommended approval of a license agreement between the city and the Shirley Heinze Land Trust to allow construction of the Marquette Trail from Kennedy Avenue to Klein Avenue as part of the Market Greenway federal-aid project. Engineering staff said the request is similar to a prior agreement with The Nature Conservancy that covered the eastern half of the project and that the land-trust agreement must be approved by the Department of Natural Resources because of the preserve character of portions of the corridor.
City engineering asked the board to approve the license so construction can proceed; a board member recommended approval and the chair concurred. Engineering said the agreement will enable the city to move forward with the federal-aid Market Greenway project between Kennedy and Klein, north of the Indiana Toll Road.
